Case Study: Hannah, Clinic Assistant at Lushington Chiropractic
Most of our cases studies we share are “typical examples”, and not about any specific individuals. However, this case study has been volunteered by our very own Hannah. Hannah is one of our lovely Clinic Assistant team.
When Hannah began to suffer with tennis elbow she sought treatment and this is her story.
Hi, I’m Hannah, a Clinic Assistant at Lushington Chiropractic in Eastbourne.
When I started working at Lushington in November 2022, I had the opportunity to try out the wide range of treatments offered by the chiropractors.
At the time, the main pain I had was on the outside of my right elbow. At first, I thought chiropractors just treated peoples backs, but little did I know that they could help me with my elbow too!
For a long time I’ve been suffering in silence, but the pain on some days meant that I couldn’t carry a bag of shopping or walk my dog using that hand.
My elbow also became stiff and painful while I slept, sometimes causing me to wake up during the night or the next morning in agony. I had tried using a support brace and taking pain killers, but the problem just wasn’t going away.
I’ve never played tennis, but I had heard of tennis elbow, and did wonder if that’s what was going on.
I now know that any repetitive movements and general “wear and tear”, can cause tennis elbow. In my case, many years working as a vet nurse and dog walker had taken its toll on my elbow.
Over the next few weeks, I had several sessions with the chiropractors. It was interesting to see how they used their techniques and approaches to help.
The muscles around my elbow had become very tight so they were massaged, sometimes with a cooling Biofreeze gel.
Manipulation and massage of the elbow joint itself also helped to relieve the pain. On one session they also used a tool was to “activate” the area, increasing blood flow and promoting recovery. I even had needles applied to the soft tissues around my elbow joint, again increasing blood flow to the area and speeding up the healing process.
With each session I felt some improvement. The tennis elbow pain had been a problem for a long time but after a while I realised I no longer felt pain on a daily basis.
In fact, after a couple of months the pain had completely disappeared.
Since then, I only ever feel the slightest twinge when I’ve overdone things. I should do my exercises but …
On top of that, the other adjustments I received during my treatments helped with some general aches and pains that I was feeling. It was a great introduction to working at a chiropractor clinic. Not only did I get to try out the treatments, but they fixed my tennis elbow!
It just feels nice to be taking care of your body. It’s particularly good to do something rather than just taking painkillers. After all, we only get one body and it has to work very hard for us!
